"Change a Campus, Change a Generation"
These are exciting evangelistic, edutainment, abstinent students’ blitz aimed at helping students live in victory over sexual promiscuity, drugs and addictive unbecoming behaviors through being transformed to the values of Christ, and help them teach their peers the same. We do this through conducting various programs on different students’ campuses. We believe changing a campus is changing a nation, because out of a campus come the leaders and parents in a nation, and leaders are followed.
Many outreaches into Universities, tertiary institutions, schools and colleges have been done. We promote behavioral change and an all round positive transformation of one’s life. The youths are urged to value their values and to live responsibly. The young people being our future generation need a lot of attention as far as molding their character is concerned. We believe that when we change the campus, we are changing the generation.
“Change a Youth, Change a Generation"
"Use a Youth to Catch a Youth”
These outreaches cause a lot of impact in the lives of these young people as well as helping them make responsible decisions in their lives. Through the art of music, dance and drama, sports and many other activities, positive and desirable changes have occurred in their lives.
In 2006, a research done by the Uganda Red Cross showed that 80% of the students in Universities and tertiary institutions are infected with HIV/AIDS. The fact is many young people are involved in sexual and promiscuous activities which make them extremely vulnerable to many sexually Transmitted Diseases. It has been discovered that 30% of the students at any given University are infected with HIV/AIDS.
In the same year, Commission International together with IPS, WHO, and the University Guild organized a powerful HIV/AIDS awareness campaign aimed at sensitizing the students about this deadly scourge. There was a peaceful demonstration through the city to the parliamentary building as the students were protested against pornography on the streets. The guild president then presented the students’ document to the speaker of parliament who then addressed the students. This campaign was also aimed at promoting abstinence among the young people and faithfulness among the married ones.
Around different Universities like Makerere, Kyambogo, Mbarara, Nkumba, Mbale and many others, there is a high increase of homosexuality, drug addiction, prostitution, theft and many other habits. While there are many faith-based programs on different campuses, it has also been discovered that many students are involved in evil practices. There are many programs that are set in place to promote such behaviors among the students.
The moral standards of the young people today have badly collapsed as they get caught up in heat of development and information technology. Through media systems like internet connections, magazines, music, Newspapers, the youth have been introduced to things like pornography and a lot of bad literature and many other styles of life that have led to moral degeneration.
There is a great need to reach out to the young people because many of them are perishing just because they have not been given the right principle to govern their lives especially as they go through the most challenging stage of their lives. Commission International has for the last three years done awareness campaigns through the universities. Through seminars and workshops, the young people have been greatly sensitized to make right decisions for their lives.
Grooming, teaching and training future leaders and responsible citizens is one of the goals for this campus outreaches through the inspiration of model leaders in our nation. It has always been said that ‘an idle mind is the devil’s workshop’. This is true because each time a person is idle, they end up thinking of something to do and in the process they end up getting involved in unbecoming habits.
This is why all strategies are laid to occupy the youth especially during their free time. Commission International has put in place a resource center, music and drama activities, sports activities, movie nights and many other activities that impact the lives of the young people positively even as their lives are being changed for the better and their characters and behaviors being shaped to tap their untapped talents, potentials and abilities.
On most evenings, volunteer members from Commission International visit different residential places around the University especially halls and hostels of residence to share the gospel of Jesus
Christ. However one discovers that these students turn into room prostitutes in the night. The girls are dressed skimpily as they are driven off by all kinds of men for the night. Sometimes, it takes only another person to speak into the lives of such as these for them to change positively.
Join us in any way you can as we reach out to the young people through your prayers, time, financial contributions, literature support and other way possible so that we can change our nation and generation.
