Child Sacrifice

The practice of child sacrifice is linked to superstitious beliefs and harmful traditional practices that one can derive wealth by sacrificing children. It’s an activity of witchcraft most often at the expense of human life, more specifically young innocent children. Over the past 6 years, this practice has rapidly increased with several cases of missing children reported, others found dead with missing body parts.

In 2009, Commission International successfully chaired a petition to the parliament of Uganda to amend the Witchcraft Act and is to date committed to see this practice wiped out.

Addressing this issue from its roots using a faith based approach, Uganda and Africa can be free from ritual murder.

HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS remains a national and international crisis. UNAIDS report 2011 reveals that there are 34 million HIV positive people in the world. In Uganda, 1.2 million people and an estimated 150,000 children live positively. 64,000 Ugandans died of the AIDS virus in 2010. An estimated 2.7 million new infections were also recorded worldwide and Uganda accounts for 124,000 new infections. In fact since 2001, the percentage of new HIV/AIDS infections has risen by 17%. These statistics remain alarming and need attention and commitment if a generation with no AIDS is to be created. People infected with the virus don’t suffer alone. Their families and communities endure similar pain and helplessness.

Commission International is committed to the fight and struggle to create an AIDS free generation. A generation with high moral standards and Godly values. Our preventive measures include; advocacy for Abstinence before marriage and faithfulness in marriage. For care and treatment, Voluntary Counseling and Testing, advocacy against stigma and; support of medical teams, among others.

Malaria

Another deadly scourge is malaria. Over three quarters of a million deaths per year is attributed to malaria; an infection caused by the malaria parasite entering the bloodstream – usually through the bite of an infected mosquito. In Africa, malaria remains a leading cause of child mortality, with one in six child deaths every 45 seconds.

Resettlement

Housing Projects – Giving Hope to the Homeless

Commission International housing project focuses on providing a safe home to vulnerable children and the elderly. Vibrant communities are created by constructing cluster homes for families. Care takers are then assigned with the responsibility of upbringing and instructing the children or the elderly placed under them through all stages in life.

In doing this, we also bring social services such as; schools, vocational training institutes, counseling centers, medical clinics and recreational centers in closer reach.

Children and the elderly are some of the most vulnerable persons, most often neglected or given the least focus and attention. When a safe haven is availed and the basics of life brought closer, they will certainly be able to attain desired goals in life.

Commission International seeks to resettle the Internally Displaced Persons of northern Uganda to their former villages; street children and persons living in slums through our resettlement and housing project.

Through this project, technical training such as tailoring, carpentry, dairy farming is enhanced to empower individuals for independent living. After the training, a start- up capital is availed to the selected individuals.

Farming implements and seeds such as Groundnuts, beans, millet, sorghum are provided to help them carry out farming for both domestic and commercial benefits.

Building materials for semi permanent houses are also availed as a resettlement package.

Medical Clinical

In a remote village in Busaana, Kayunga district lay Nabuganyi’s body. She was only 5 years when the hut in which she was sleeping got fire burning it to ashes. Nabuganyi was barely rescued from the fire by a neighbor. However, because the only health center was several kilometers away, she could not survive the burns. Her mother, weary from crying held her lifeless body in her arms. Tears continually welled down her eyes. She remained motionless.

The pain was so intense, that onlookers and passersby got enthralled by the ordeal. She didn’t have the stance and strength to speak anymore. Our team that was carrying out an outreach in the village could not help much at this point. Not even the powerful words of the gospel would be meaningful to this widowed woman at this point. Had there been a health center close by, the daughter would have been saved.

Such is the peril of many in Sub-Saharan African. Absence of medical clinic and under stocked medical facilities has caused death of countless people.

During our mission outreaches, we carry out mobile medical clinics where we offer basic first aid treatment, Counseling and prayer; and Voluntary Counseling and Testing for HIV. We do witness many physical and psychological healings in the process, even as countless lives are transformed towards the values of Christ.

We are running a pilot project 2012/2013 to build a fully staffed and well stocked medical facility in Kayunga district in Uganda where villages can access quick and cheap medical assistance. Help us fulfill this vision by partnering with us.

Food Bank Project

Special thanks to UN - World Food Program for positively responding to our request for Food items that fed over 35,000 people in Amuru IDP Camp, Northern Uganda.

By 2010, there were over 925 million hungry people in the world according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. Numerous cases remain unrecorded. No one knows the actual number of people affected. To date, hunger kills more people compared to Aids and malaria with over 14,000 dying daily. The worst hit by this atrocity are women and children.

Hunger has become a deadly disease in most parts of Africa with a total of 820 million hungry people in developing countries today. In addition are the escalating food prices that have created an additional strain to equal access to food in Africa and Uganda as a Nation.

Not every poor person is hungry, but almost all hungry people are poor. Millions live with hunger and malnourishment because they simply cannot afford to buy enough food, afford nutritious foods or the farming supplies they need to grow enough good food of their own. Hunger can be viewed as a dimension of extreme poverty. It is often called the most severe and critical manifestation of poverty. Commission International works with key players in the country to develop a sustainable solution to the increasing food insecurity.

We partner with churches, NGOs and communities to open food banks nationwide and to identify the needy families that can benefit from our food banks. We also believe the only way for people to move beyond chronic hunger and their vulnerability to ever-rising food prices is to employ sustainable methods based on self-reliance so Commission International provides the tools and training to increase farm production at the local level; empowers partners to create, stock and manage their own food banks; and encourages clusters of rural villages to develop sustainable, self-reliant, hunger-free communities.

We believe food banks play a critical role in delivering food to those who need it most so we are purposed to reach Sub-Saharan Africa and other regions most affected with not just food for a day but a lasting solution to the problem. By donating seeds for farming to the most affected persons and regions; and establishing farm lands for farming projects, this problem can be averted.

We reach out to needy persons in remote places; and during calamities with emergency relief where we donate basic necessities, first aid and counseling services as we share the gospel of Christ.

The $1.25 per person per day threshold for extreme poverty is a standard adopted by the World Bank and other international organizations to reflect the minimum consumption and income level needed to meet a person's basic needs. That means that people who fall under that poverty line—that's 1/6 of the world’s population, or 1.4 billion people—lack the ability to fulfill basic needs, whether it means eating only one bowl of rice a day or forgoing health care when it’s needed most.

In addition to that 95% live in homes with dirt floors and roofs that fail to keep out the rain and other elements; homes often lack basic sanitary latrines. Many of their communities lack basic services such as public education and health care.

In a nation such as Uganda, where the ravages of Aids and the conflicts of war have decimated families, one finds a significant proportion of the youth orphaned. As one of the most unprotected groups of people, orphans are faced with a demeaning poverty trap which they cannot fight all alone. Many have no relatives ready to help, no place to go, no food to eat and with these basic necessities unfulfilled, thoughts of an education are nonexistent.

Working with the extreme poor is more time consuming and costly than working with other populations because their needs are so vast. What good is it my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith help him?? James 2:14

Afrikidz project comprise of refugee, HIV/AIDs affected, vulnerable and orphaned children. We identify the most vulnerable and help nurture and establish them for a brighter future. With the help of their guardians, we have successfully been able to help a number of children, who would otherwise have had no future or hope.

Our vision is to build a permanent home for them where foster parents will be able to offer them guidance as their pursue their education and get established in life.

Till every child has got a bosom to lean on, food to eat, shelter to house them, clothes to wear, education for a future and an environment to nurture them for godliness and communal responsibility.

Afrikidz started in 2006 as we started sponsoring little orphaned Sarah in school at Namungoona in Kampala suburbs and later grew into an outreach of sponsoring children into school, clothing and feeding the destitute children on the streets of Kampala City.
