Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop.
Volunteers aren't paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless. Service to others is the payment you make for your space here on earth and savings in heaven.
The Harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Luke 10:2

Psalm 52:9
While in Uganda, our team partnered with an amazing group of dedicated individuals from an organization called "Commission International". We traveled together to Patongo, a town that was the location of a camp for internally displaced people in northern Uganda.
The people living in Patongo had faced turmoil for over 20 years due to a rebel group, called the “Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA)”, which had risen up against the government of Uganda; a man named Joseph Kony was the leader of this rebel army. The LRA attacked villages and brutally murdered many. Countless children were orphaned as a result of this war in northern Uganda, and many young boys were abducted by the LRA and trained as child soldiers; these young children were often forced to violently kill their neighbors and other victims. The people living in Patongo were required to leave their own villages and homes and live in an overcrowded camp in order to be protected from attacks by the LRA. The LRA left Uganda in 2006 and, since then, has been actively attacking regions in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic and South Sudan.
When our team arrived in Patongo, the region had not been attacked in over 2 years. Our team held various events throughout the week we were there; I was in charge of running a free medical clinic for the people of Patongo. Even though I had only completed one year of medical school and felt limited in what I could do, we were able to partner with the local hospital and offer free HIV testing and counseling; those who were positive were referred to the hospital for further care. Our team also did a great deal of wound care as many of the children had several sores on their feet. Others in our team headed up a kids’ camp throughout the week, and we also hosted a sports day for the people of Patongo including soccer games and a race.
Every evening, we had worship services where hundreds of people gathered to worship God and hear from His Word. Bishop Mawa shared his testimony and hands were raised everywhere to accept Christ as Lord and Savior. We realized that the harvest truly is plentiful! Many were healed of diseases and delivered from demonic strongholds. Undoubtedly, working with Commission International during that week was life-changing for our team and for those we ministered to in Patongo. We are earnestly looking forward to the time when God opens a door for us to again work with this incredible organization, Commission International.
In the autumn of 2007 I stayed for 3 months with Commission International in Kampala, Uganda. They are very hospitable and friendly and their passion for the gospel is wonderful. I was hosted by them while working with a local pastor in a slum area.
Living with them gave me the opportunity to go with this great team for ministry on several occasions. The outreaches included University fellowships, students’ hostels and churches. It was very motivating to see many young lives commit to the saving grace of Jesus and get total transformation.
It was an inspiring and challenging time for me. I loved every moment and look forward to another mission time with Commission International. I wish them all the best.
